To start with, the Droid X has in our humble opinion "to die for" looks. And, even though it is the largest phone on the US market today, with its dimensions being 5 by 2.6 by 0.4 inches, its features make its size a minor flaw on the possible cons list. One more possible advantage of its size? You will have a reason (if you are looking for one) not to buy this phone for your kids, because it will not comfortably fit in small pockets therefore being more easy to lose. (We are sure Motorola can recommend something more appropriate for your tweens and teens.) 
 
Its screen of 4.3-inch, 854 by 480 has a slightly higher resolution than other Android phones. And no need to panic button-lovers, because below the screen there are still four hardware buttons. The Droid X has the Swype text-entry method, which can make your typing even faster and easier. If you have to type in URLs, passwords, or (proper) names of course, you will have to type them by yourself.

Since 1933, the dollar has lost over 97% of its purchasing power because as more and more is created, value is in essence 'clipped' from it. This has accelerated in the past 100 years because there is no connection at all between the dollar and any sort of valuable commodity.

Under legal tender laws, bad money drives out good money. This means that most of the pre-1964 coins that are 90% silver have slowly been collected and removed from circulation. It is a rare occurrence to get change back that contains any silver. If you do, don't put it in the parking meter downtown! 
 
As the gap continues to expand between good money and bad money, it is important to see that our monetary system impacts every one of us every day. Okuma Group: Euro Continues Its Orderly Decline.

Okuma Group: The huge €750bn euro stabilization fund unveiled by the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund appears to be unable to stem the decline in the value of the euro against the US dollar and other currencies.

Okuma Group analysts claim that a lack of clarity as to how the package will actually work and the fact that the package is incapable of addressing the underlying problem of over-indebtedness in several of the EU members using the single currency as the chief reason for its muted success. 
 
Although the euro gained sharply against the greenback as markets began trading after the weekend announcement, by the end of Monday's trading, it had pared those gains as investors realized that there were still reasonable doubts as to whether nations like Greece would be able to shave public spending and increase tax revenue sufficiently to satisfy the conditions of the initial bailout let alone the euro stabilization package. 
 
Opposition to the initial EU/IMF aid package has taken the form of violent protests in the Greek capital, Athens and further unrest is expected as the measures begin to bite.

The Effects of Yoga on the Voice

Voice lessons aside, one other thing that helps with singing or public speaking will be a feeling of looseness and flexibility in the throat. While some may rely on 
'Hot tea, lemon and honey' to achieve this, there are actually some yoga poses that help 'loosen' the vocal cords and with practice actually increase the flexibility of the muscles in those areas.

Now, from personal research, a specific book titled 'Singing for the Stars' by Seth Riggs-(the vocal coach of the who-is-who of the Music Industry)-specifies that stretching to warm up not only the vocal cords but the whole body before doing vocal warm-ups are very helpful. 
 
That considered, I specifically incorporated those poses that I know from sensation loosen the cervical region that of course contains the throat. (As an added bonus, some of these poses loosen other body parts that come in handy for my 'James Brown-Michael Jackson-Prince'-esque moves by the way...) 
 
Now I will show you my choices and explain each one briefly. 
 
1. The Sun Salutations. 
 
This is more of a combination of poses, versus being an exclusive pose. Its ease and versatility comes in handy for warming up the entire body and increasing the blood flow. Moreover, with the deep breathing associated (and the corrective effect it does have on breathing in general), this unique collage of indeed very simple movements will come in handy for just about warming up to do anything. 
 
2. The Wheel Pose: 
 
This is a backward bending pose that owing to its execution stretches the entire body immensely. When properly executed, one's head will be turned upside down which consequently stretches the throat and increases the blood flow to the head. When, I'm doing mid to up-tempo numbers, I love executing the wheel pose to sort of get the adrenalin pumped up and I also add the spinal twists (it's counter pose so to speak) for an even more balanced stretch that it may offer. 
 
3. The Lion Pose: 
 
Think "Scary Movie 1" here for a minute, remember when Marlon Wayans yells "whazup" and stretches out his tongue? Well, this pose has a similar concept in execution. Moreover, I actually read that taking its name into consideration, it is often a pose recommended for overcoming shyness, as some Yogic texts claim in executing a pose, you take up the characteristic of the object or creature it is named after. Since this is the Lion Pose, it is believed that boldness and confidence is increased. For now, let's just stick to the immense stretching of the throat that it offers. 
 
4. The Shoulder-Stand Sequence: 
 
Well, this sequence includes a pose known in Yoga as Savagasana (meaning it affects all body parts). It is a simple inversion pose and when executed with its counter poses: The Bridge and the Fish Poses, they adequately loosen up the whole body. If my performance or session is in the earlier parts of the day, I may simply execute just this sequence alone (with the previously mentioned sun salutations) and be fine. The fish pose especially loosens up the chest and is often recommended for respiratory disorders such as Asthma and Bronchitis. 
 
5. The Relaxation Pose: 
 
The name says it all. After a session or performance, it is always best to cool down the vocal muscles as this comes in handy for extensive daily use. Perhaps no other pose comes close to relaxing not only the vocal cords but the whole body like the Relaxation Pose yoga has to offer. This simple relaxation technique is something I have incorporated into my list of essentials as a vocalist and will come in handy for interested parties as well. 
 
In addition to these poses and since singing involves a great degree of breath control, the Breathing Exercises (aka pranayama) belonging to Yoga come in very handy, as well as do some Yogic Cleaning techniques for the body such as nasal, throat and tongue cleansing...but that's another topic altogether. 
 
Moreover, a yogic diet -which is akin to the Mucus-free diet of the drug-free fraternity/lifestyle-helps to ensure excess mucus within is curbed and of course fasting-an advocated practice of Yoga-augments this even more. In fact this last factor is secretly why I hardly ever run out of breath while performing folks. 
 
Perhaps if I ever end up winning a Grammy someday (hey, you never know...), I'll be able to get up at the podium and acknowledge Yoga much more for helping me sing better, but for now, if your trade, passion or hobby demands an intense use of your vocal cords, you can surely benefit a lot from adding a little bit of yoga to making them work a lot better.

Lego Star Wars Review 2010: Set 8095 General Grievous’ Starfighter

When Lego releases the second wave of Star Wars toys for 2010 much attention will be paid to the redesigned minifigure of General Grievous who comes with his redesigned starfighter in set 8095. Grievous was featured in only one of the Star Wars films, Episode Three Revenge Of The Sith where his bad guy turn was overshadowed by the real bad guys, Darth Vader and Darth Sidious.

When George Lucas put together The Clone Wars animated television series however, Grievous became the primary antagonist and his ruthless reputation grew with the killing of Kit Fisto's former apprentice Mon Calamari Jedi Knight Nahdar Vebb in the Season One episode entitled The Lair Of Grievous. Nahdar is also featured in the set, as is the droid EV-A4-D. 
 
Lego originally released Grievous as a figure to accompany the first release of his starfighter in 2007 but it was maligned by fans as possibly the worst minifigure design of the Star Wars Lego universe. Hoping to regain a little credibility, Lego has altered the design completely and the new version is much improved. Grievous is instantly recognisable as his Clone Wars version and thankfully comes with specially sculpted pieces and printing on his head. 
 
The new starfighter design is also an improvement. There are pop out missiles on the side of the ship and a more accurate windscreen piece. A well the design is more colourful, though not so as it detracts from the overall accuracy of the ship. It's quite sturdy and swooshable, an enjoyable build and play for fans over eight years. 
 
The set comes with 454 pieces, the three minifigures and a whole heap of chrome handled lightsabers for Grievous to wield. As Grevious is a fairly specialised figure that I doubt will appear in a magnet set anytime soon, chances are this set will attract alot of love from fans because of the minifig appeal.

4 Green Remodeling Tips From An Eco-Consultant

"Everybody wants to be green."

It's sexy, it's cool, and it's socially responsible being green. Unfortunately it can also be paradoxical and elusive. Is it green to lay down bamboo flooring that's been shipped from China? Hmm… 
Whether your project is a home remodel, redoing a city building or you are incorporating sustainable business practices into your 500 employee company there are some basic tenets for your sustainable green remodeling projects that apply. 
 
Define green to you 
 
Green can mean a multitude of things to different people. I've had clients define green as creating the healthiest environment possible. For them it meant no-VOC paint, no carpets, all organic cleaners, away from freeway pollution, etc. Green to a national financial company client meant they operated their entire firm with the least amount of energy and waste consumed. 
There can be a multitude of ways to define 'green' such as: 
• Using locally sourced materials 
• Reducing waste 
• Using recycled products 
• Using renewable energy 
• Creating a ultra-healthy environment with no toxins or harmful air Pollutants 
• Using passive solar, grey water systems and solar heating 
• So the key is to define what 'green' means to you. Only then can you move on to the next step, which is; 
 
Get clear on your goals 
 
What are your green goals and how do they align with your definition of green? Your goals set the stage for your initial plan. Most clients we work with find that once we've uncovered their true definition of 'green' and their goals, the planning and implementation process becomes much easier. 
I met with clients recently who wanted their construction company to be green. After we defined green to them we took a look at their goals. We found that by uncovering their true goals we discovered several additional revenue streams they hadn't thought of. Originally their goal was to create an emergency shelter product that could be built onsite within a few days. After working together on their goals we found that their true goal was to create a product that was completely off the grid. Subsequently we discovered several different applications for their product and entire other markets for them to explore. 
 
Be realistic with your budget 
 
Some of the most powerful things you can do to green up your surroundings can also be the least expensive. For many clients doing a home remodel, we help them determine a budget prior to any work being done. Their budget coupled with their goals allows us to create a plan that works best for them. From a budget standpoint we look for solutions that focus on resource and materials conservation and reduction of energy usage. 
We also help clients combine solutions. For example, we might recommend more deciduous trees strategically placed near south facing windows with a rain water irrigation system. This provides summer shading, winter heating, reduced heating and cooling bills and reduced water bills. Combined solutions are great because there is only one expense for several solutions. 
 
Do your due diligence 
 
Once your goals have been defined be very thorough when you interview prospective contractors, architects, consultants, etc. who are going to do the work. You want to make sure that the person you're hiring has incorporated green as an integral part of their business and not just some 'one off' solution for the random client. 
For example there is one paint company in San Diego I recommend because they are the only ones I know of who use no-VOC paint almost exclusively. They also offset their carbon emissions from their trucks through TerraPass. Being green and operating green isn't a small part of their business, it's one of the biggest elements of their company.

Adopting Older Dogs - Things to Consider

Adopting an older dog from a shelter can be a rewarding experience for you and the dog involved. You may actually be saving the animal's life in many cases - older dogs are rarely adopted, in comparison to puppies. Most people go out looking for puppies. When you get a dog from a shelter in most states, the dog will be neutered or spayed t the animal's vaccinations will be updated as part of the adoption fee. The fees can range from $30 to $150, depending on location and the animal in question. Many times, this will also include the RFID chip that will be registered to you, to help you get reunited with your dog if you should become separated.
 
 Dogs have spent many millennia at our sides and most are happy to have a family, but you should think carefully about the animal you decide to adopt. Think carefully about what breeds the dog might be, and look them all up, checking temperament, thinking about size if the dog is immature, exercise or attention requirements, etc. If you live in a high rise apartment you probably don't want to take home a Malamute -they're working dogs that require a lot of exercise for health and happiness, and too big to get much inside an apartment - and a bored Malamute is a force of nature similar to a tornado.
 
 If you have other animals, the situation becomes even more complex. Is the breed of dog or cat good with other animals? Is the dog breed known for attacking smaller animals (like cats)? Does the particular animal seem calm? If you can, try introducing with the cat inside a cat carrier, not in your arms. If the dog seems oblivious or uninterested, but not conclusive. Many dogs will ignore walking cats, but take off after running ones immediately and with single-minded determination. No matter what, you'll have to be on high alert if you're introducing an adult dog into a home with multiple pets.
 
 Does the breed have special health requirements? Make sure you're taking the animal's care into account - dogs like Malamutes, Huskies, and Chows need a lot of coat care, or they will end up matted and unhappy, followed by "shaved¡± and unhappy. Some breeds of dog are more prone to congenital degenerative diseases like hip dysplasia - is the animal you're considering adopting a member of such a breed? You should also make certain that you're prepared to housebreak an older dog, in case the animal was kept primarily outside.
 
 If you have children, make sure the animal's breed is known for being tolerant of children. Test the animal's food response, if possible. With two adults present, one holding the dog's leash, give the animal a treat or bone and bring the child close -not close enough to get bit, though. See if the animal reacts by growling or snapping. It's not uncommon for an otherwise docile animal to bite when they think their food is in danger. If the reaction is mild or nonexistent, you might want to test some more. Remember, you should always be alert and have two adults present, and you should always check this response before letting your new dog and your young child free in the house. Many small children have gotten bit because they played in the dog's food while mom and dad were watching the big game. Even though these bites are usually not very dangerous (being defensive bites, not attacks), it's a sad result for everyone, leading to unpleasant shots for the child and either euthanasia or a return to the shelter for the dog. Otherwise uninterested dogs have been known to attack cats that approached their food bowls too closely, as well.
